with Kimahri Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4, 2008 Kimahri is a spirited and dynamic performer. Her passion for music is the foundation for her dynamic and spirited style. She has been a dancer for over 20 years, bringing a strong background of ballet, jazz, modern and Latin training to Oriental Dance. Kimahri travels regularly in the region as a guest artist and dance workshop presenter, and continues her dance education with master teachers from the Middle East, Europe and the US. Kimahri's recent performance credits include winning the 2007 East Coast Classic (Grand Champion category), performing at the "Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs" exhibit at Chicago's Field Museum, winning the 2005 Golden Navel Bellydance Competition in Chicago, being featured on WFLD-TV FOX Chicago, and having feature stories and dance photos in the Chicago Tribune and Daily Herald. |
Ballet for Bellydancers Saturday, 9am-noon Wonderful things can happen when Middle Eastern Dance meets with ballet! This workshop will feature strength and conditioning through classic ballet barre exercises, emphasis on dance posture, developing and integrating graceful arm movements, ballet terminology, center work and turns. Sunday, 10am-noon Shimmy like you've never shimmied before! We'll break down a "Shimmy 6-pack" to the foundations then learn how to incorporate layers, traveling, level changes for maximum effect! | Sunday, 1-3 pm Learn some slammin' combinations in this earthy street style with bad-girl attitude to burn! We'll use the modern urban music of Saad and Hoda to bring out the in-your-face extrovert in you! |
