World DanceBollywood Bounce Bollywood is a lively, flirtatious and fun style of dance made popular in Bollywood (Indian musical) films. Bollywood is a fusion of several classical Indian dance styles with jazz, bellydance, and modern popular styles from the West. Your instructor will lead you through a fun choreography to a Bollywood tune. This class is not intended to offer an in-depth understanding of Indian culture, films, or classical Indian dance. Thursdays, 6pm at the Cherokee studio, Ballroom Dance Don’t spend another social event sitting on the sidelines-- if Kurt Warner, Bristol Palin, and “The Situation” can do it-- SO CAN YOU! This class is perfect for individuals who have never danced, anyone who considers him/herself to have two left feet, couples who desire to learn and have fun together, and those looking for a workout that doesn’t feel like work! In this 6-week session, students will learn the basics of FOXTROT, WALTZ and TANGO, work on developing correct posture and frame, and walk away with a enough smooth moves to feel confident on the dance floor! NO PARTNER REQUIRED. PLEASE DRESS COMFORTABLY AND WEAR SHOES THAT ADHERE TO THE FEET AND WILL NOT STICK TO THE FLOOR (i.e. no flip flops, slingbacks, or sticky rubber soles). Mondays, 7pm at the Cherokee Studio & Sundays 5pm at the Belleville studio. Latin Dance Escape the winter cold in St. Louis and add a little fire and spice to your life with Latin Dance! Get cheeky with the Cha Cha Cha, tap into your sensual side with the Rumba, and feel your temperature rise with the Salsa. In this 6-week session, students will learn the basics of the CHA CHA CHA, RUMBA, and SALSA, improve their rhythm and timing, and be able to SHAKE IT with confidence on the dance floor! BellydanceWhich Bellydance Class?Lotus Arts Studio offers two primary styles of bellydance, Middle Eastern and Tribal Fusion. Start with a beginner class and as you progress you can choose the style that's most appealing to you! Middle Eastern Style Bellydance ClassesBellydance I (Middle Eastern ) with Lauren: Learn to isolate your hips, torso, and abdomen to dance in the Middle Eastern style. Plan to learn at this level for 6-12 months — each time you’ll learn something new & you'll master a different choreography each session. Details about the levels and performance groups at Lotus Arts Studio Wednesdays 6pm in Belleville Bellydance II & III (Middle Eastern): As you move up through the levels, you'll master more complicated movements and learn more about Middle Eastern dance and music. Plan to learn at level two for 6-12 months, level three for a minimum of 9 months. Finger cymbals and ballet slippers or other soft-soled dance shoes recommended. Details about the levels and performance groups at Lotus Arts Studio Belleville Studio, Bellydance Technique: This drilling & technique perfection class is perfect for students who just want to move and have fun instead of progressing through levels or learning choreography. But it’s also perfect for students from all levels who want to clean up their technique before advancing or want to dance more than once a week. Requires at least one session of Level One. this class is on hold for the moment Bellydance Solo Development: This is an all-levels and all-styles class aimed at the dancer who wants to work on her development as a soloist. We will study traveling steps, technique, improv, structure, musicality & expression, all within the context of developing a performance-ready solo piece (choreo or improv) Bring a piece of music to work on (or we'll help you find one) a notebook & pen, and a personal listening device (ipod or discman with headphones). Requires at least one session of Level One. Tuesdays, 8pm in the Belleville Studio & Thursdays 7pm in the Cherokee studio Bellydance IV| Choreography: Requires successful completion of level III. Some choreographies will require special props, we make every effort to keep this affordable. After 6 months to one year in the Bellydance IV class, students are eligible to join the Hips Afire! Repertory Company. Details about the levels and performance groups at Lotus Arts Studio Wednesdays 7pm in Belleville Beyond the Basics: Middle Eastern Bellydance II-IV: This class is being offered at the Cherokee studio to accommodate experienced dancers who have not previously been Lotus Arts students but who would like to study at an advanced level. Content will be determined by the students' interests but might include technique, source folk dances, choreography, props, solo development, stage presence, etc. This class is on hold for the moment Bellydance| Musicality and Expression: Open for registration or drop-in to all serious bellydance students (levels 3 and up). We'll cover musical interpretation, improvisation, stage presence, and emoting for solo dance expression. This is a *really* fun class, sometimes even silly, but we work hard and your performance skills will improve rapidly here. Wednesdays 8pm in Belleville **this class is on hold at the moment Bellydance| Hips Afire! Repertory Group: This group performs for the general public and will occasionally need to acquire special costume pieces or props for group work. Dancers are required to attend regularly, be on time for classes, rehearse outside of class, and demonstrate an ability to be a team player. MUST be concurrently enrolled in a level IV class. Details about the levels and performance groups at Lotus Arts Studio Saturdays, 10am at the Belleville Studio Bellydance| Silver Sirens: Dancers of all ages are welcome in all Lotus Arts classes. But sometimes women 'of a certain age' find that they prefer a class of their own for a variety of reasons, physical or social. What age is a 'certain age?' We prefer to let each dancer decide for herself! This group requires completion of at least one session of Level I Bellydance. The group will be performing at some events, but will perform choreographies that play to their strengths and avoid some of the athleticism of the mtraditional performance groups. Beginner Bellydance with Ami Amore: Come out and get your shimmy on! Have fun and feel like a goddess in a supportive environment while learning the basics of bellydancing! Beginners only. This is a relaxed class and tons of fun! This is a great starter class for those who may want to go further with bellydance or for those who just want the exercise. Wear confortable clothes for dancing, yoga attire is great, super baggy sweats are discouraged, but slightly baggy sweats are ok. Flat dance shoes ok, but most dance with bare feet. Tuesdays, 6pm at the Cherokee Studio Bellydance Basics with a Fusion Flair: Fusionistas will be taught the basic movements of bellydance focusing on moves specially designed for those interested in learning tribal fusion bellydance. Topics covered will include muscle control and isolations, pops, basic footwork, exercises to create smooth snakelike movements and let's not forget our shimmies. At the end of each class we will put moves we learned in class together into a combination. Drop ins ok, but we strongly recommend you sign up for the session. Ok for those with little or no bellydance experience. It is recommended to take concurrently with Yoga for Dance or All-Levels Yoga (multiple class discount will apply). Wednesdays, 6pm at the Cherokee Studio Beyond Fusion Basics Taking our basic knowledge and movements to the next level. We'll work on traveling, spins and turns, posture and arm patterns, basic layering, combinations and choreography all rooted in fusion bellydance. Basic prop usage (like veil, cane and/or zills) will also be explored. Must have permission of instructor to attend this class. It is recommended to take concurrently with Fusion with a Basics Flair or Yoga for Dance (multiple class discount will apply). Wednesdays, 7pm at the Cherokee Studio Tribal Fusion Bellydance Intermediate Requires instructor permission to enroll. It is recommended to take concurrently with Yoga for Dance or All-Levels Yoga (multiple class discount will apply).
